History of Shree Bavis Gam Patidar Samaj (U.K.)

On 28th June 1974, Maganbhai Patel, member of Ras Village, died in London. This was first known tragic incident for our Samaj members to face, in this country, after arriving in mass migration from Uganda. Many of us were still struggling to settle and adopt this country's social environment during early years. Than language, culture and religion were the obstacle in communicating with the host country. Not more than handful people were available to attend and handle the funeral process for the late Maganbhai. Few prominent community workers raised £600 for the funeral expense from the immediate circles.

This inspired the need and existence of our SAMAJ . Many of those community minded personalities are still here amongst us working and devoting their valuable time and money. Haribhai of Vadadala arranged a meeting, soon after incident, at his house. All Bavis Gam Representatives were invited on this day. P.T. Patel (Vadod), Chandubhai (Ras) and Manibhai D. Patel formed a committee. In 1975, the Samaj was formally established and unveil the title "SHREE BAVIS GAM PATIDAR SAMAJ, UK". It will be appropriate to mention P. T. Patel's non-stop work for the community at this stage. SHREE P. T. Patel was the articulator in Kenya, Uganda, Zambia and Tanzania to form the Samaj 1944. Recently, retired and recovering from bypass surgery, at the age of 77 years, he is putting more time and efforts in making this Directory.

In 70's, at very early stage, Shree Rameshbhai and Shree K. B. Patel joined in to prosper our  Samaj activities. Most of these 25 years of Samaj's work handled at 10 Station Grove, Wembley, the home of Shree Rameshbhai. Through out in his working life in UK., Half of the each day's working time was devoted to our Samaj.

In late 80's after a struggle, the younger president was made possible. His work and talent was recognized by our grass root members. This younger President out the Samaj affair in to more recognizable records. His valuable contribution is today's fruitful existence. Yes! He is an honorable Shree Bipinbhai M. Patel (Ranoli). His efforts to put our membership drive in to fore front and making an amended constitution, will stay for time to come. The membership records, The account and Samaj na Vahen gone in to computerized format during his presidency.  The Samaj's fund had doubled during this time, simultaneously the Samaj's activities and involvement in other affiliated bodies in U.K.

Shree N. I. Patel inherited the healthy structure of our Samaj and exploded in various fields. These two presidents have put Samaj before their family. They have set a trend of bringing in younger generation in to Committee.

In present time, our living legends and current committee members are the, driving forces to other affiliated bodies. Bipinbhai, is a prominent Hindu Council Committee member. He held nearly all positions in Brent Hindu Council. Shree Rameshbhai S. Patel is the only person in our Samaj, who has served in our committee throughout 25 years. The Patidar Federation is the brainchild of Shree Rameshbhai. Our heads are bowing to you Rameshbhai for your contribution to Patidars and to our Samaj in this country.

Shree K. B. Patel formed a National Congress of Gujaratis and fought single handed to many good causes and fund raisings. He has been a president of our Samaj and trustee of Federation, N.C.O.G. and our Samaj despite hi cups in his health in last few years; he is still active in community work. (Although he say to us, that he retired from all of this now). He is the living example of true patidar spirit.

What can I say! I am proud of linked to our Samaj of such a good track record and serving in my second term as a president. Without all of you as a supporting membership, participant and audience we could not have took our Samaj to this stage. My committee members are the thriving forces of our Samaj. Rasikbhai, our secretary has taken enormous burden and strain for the last four years in this term, to keep us all moving in one direction, upwards.

My successor will have mammoth task to take us in to next millennium and introducing the new ideas and new generation, which will enable to focus the same ideology and our culture in to their adaptable approach. My dream will come true when one of our member will be a National and International level.

Cllr. Bhupendra R. Patel (Sinjiwada)

President. (1999-2001)
